Every game needs to be played in the right spirit. We hear this everyday and in all forms of sport. As a sportsman, how do you demonstrate this and uplift the game. Great sportsmen don't need to elaborate or explain about this but small subtle acts which they do the game reflects a lot.
Win or lose, good sportsmen always go to great extend to uplift this principle...
I would like to highlight a small instance which happened on 9th June 2022. This happened in a Chess game between Viswanathan Anand vs Shakhriyar Mamedyarov at the Norway chess championship 2022.
Anand made Qb5 at move 22 and just realized his blunder immediately after making the move. Anand became restless. Shakhriyar was not there on the table at that moment. When Shakhriyar came back to the table and even before he saw the move Anand resigned the game.
See the below link for a game analysis from Chess base india.
Well, it was a blunder by Anand, we know that now, and 99% Shakhriyar would have found it out, but should Anand had not resigned there is 1% chance that Shakhriyar would not have found this out.
Shakhriyar in the post match interview did admit that he did not see anything wrong with Anand's move and infact even he thought it was the best move. He also admitted that he would have found out the blunder since he had about 1hrs in clock.
The internet is filled with this debate on what if...... this has a very deep thought process , Anand has shown great value by this simple resignation..he knew he did a mistake , a mistake which deserves a loss and not an draw by chance ....
Some very important question to answer by all of us..
What do you feel about this?
Did Anand do the right thing?
Will you do the same if similar situation arise?
Comment about this and let me know your thought.
